Day 1: Airport to Lodge

Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

  • Elevation: From 1,860 meters (6,100 feet) to 2,700 meters (8,858 feet)

  • Trekking Time: 3-5 hours

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

  • Elevation: From 2,700 meters (8,858 feet) to 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

  • Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles)

  • Trekking Time: 5-7 hours

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Zebra Rock

  • Elevation: From 3,720 meters (12,205 feet) to 4,330 meters (14,206 feet) (Mawenzi Hut) and back down to 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

  • Distance: 5 km (3 miles)

  • Trekking Time: 4-6 hours

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

  • Elevation: From 3,720 meters (12,205 feet) to 4,703 meters (15,430 feet)

  • Distance: 10 km (6 miles)

Day 6: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, then descent to Horombo Hut

  • Elevation: From 4,703 meters (15,430 feet) to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) (Uhuru Peak) and down to 3,720 meters (12,205 feet)

  • Distance: 6 km (3.7 miles) ascent, 15 km (9.3 miles) descent

  • Trekking Time: 11-15 hours

Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

  • Elevation: From 3,720 meters (12,205 feet) to 1,860 meters (6,100 feet)

  • Distance: 20 km (12 miles)
