How high is Kilimanjaro?

Kilimanjaro's highest peak, Uhuru Peak on Kibo's crater rim, stands at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level.

 

What routes are available to climb Kilimanjaro?

Popular routes include Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, and the Northern Circuit, each offering different experiences in terms of scenery, duration, and difficulty.

 

How long does it take to climb Kilimanjaro?

Climbs typically range from 5 to 9 days, depending on the chosen route and the pace of acclimatisation.

 

Do I need previous climbing experience to climb Kilimanjaro?

Previous climbing experience isn't necessary, but good physical fitness and mental preparation are essential. Guides and porters assist with technical aspects.

 

What should I pack for Kilimanjaro?

We will send you a comprehensive packing list when booking.

 

What about altitude sickness on Kilimanjaro?

Altitude sickness (AMS) can affect climbers due to the rapid ascent. Proper acclimatisation, staying hydrated, and recognising symptoms are crucial. Guides are trained to handle AMS.

 

Is there a minimum age limit for climbing Kilimanjaro?

No! However, for our group trips, we require all participants to be aged 18 and above. If you are younger and interested in climbing Kilimanjaro, please feel free to contact us for information about arranging a private trip.

Do I need to take Diamox?

We recommend considering Diamox just in case! Please consult your doctor to confirm if it's suitable for you. They may advise taking it before your climb.

 

What happens if I need to descend due to altitude sickness or other reasons?

Guides and support staff are trained to manage descents safely. Most itineraries include contingency plans for emergencies.

 

Do I need travel insurance for climbing Kilimanjaro?

Yes, travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and medical emergencies is essential. Check coverage for evacuation costs and trip cancellations.

 

Can I combine a Kilimanjaro climb with a safari or other activities in Tanzania?

Absolutely! Why not add on a few days of safari, or head to the beautiful island of Zanzibar?

If I do not summit, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, no refunds can be issued for those who do not reach the summit as the price includes park fees, food, equipment, and other expenses.

What distance will I be walking?

Depending on which route you take, the distance varies from around 60-  90km, walking on average 3-8h per day.

How fit do I need to be?

You need a good level of physical fitness and endurance to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. If you are concerned about your fitness, please get in touch with us.
